Readings.  Gospel: Mark 12:38-44

Jesus did not count the amount of money that went into the coffer as the standard of giving.  He saw that the widow who had given the least had in fact given the most.  The amount that she put in the treasury wouldn't sustain anything for very long.  Her amount was basically the cost of a sweet.  Therefore most would ignore it as insignificant.  What Jesus perceived was that her sacrifice as a widow was much bigger than any of the others combined who contributed to the treasury, and so he acknowledged the importance of her story.

"Music and song are more than an embellishment .... of worship;  they are themselves part of the liturgical action.  Solemn sacred music ... is not therefore a kind of addition that frames the liturgy and makes it more pleasing, but an important means of active participation in worship." Pope Benedict XVI, Regensburg, September 2006.  Any musicians always welcome to participate in our liturgies.
